As a child, what did you dream of becoming?

When you were a child, what career interested you? When asked what you had wanted to become when you grew up, what did you say? A teacher, a doctor, a firefighter? How different is it from your interests today?

Thank you Jessica for bringing up this topic because I'm actually very willing to talk about my frequently changing dream careers. When I was in the lower grades of elementary school, I dreamed of being a doctor due to it's the career of some of my relatives; in the higher grades of elementary, I wanted to be a fashion designer since I was excelled at creativity. In grades seven, I didn't really know what I could do in this competitive world. But now, my direction of a dream career is probably heading towards civil engineering or the health care field. They are relevant to my first dream career--doctor, in the way that they are science-related; but as of fashion design...well, you might need creativity and innovation being an engineer.

I think I started out wanting to be a professional LEGO builder/rock idol, then I changed to something much easier: tank designer. In my high school years, I settled on aerospace engineering, a step, well, up, from tanks. Then I found out how many years of calculus that'd be, and decided that yes, problem solving and shiny new toys that make things go boom are great, but I don't like slogging through equations enough for 6+ years of post-secondary study. I did some hard thinking and, with a little influence from all the novels I opened and the textbooks that stayed closed, decided to go with writing. We'll see what happens from here.

I think I changed my mind every week when I was a kid - well, right up until Grade 12. And in Grade 12 I was so certain I was going to be a lighting director for theater! As a kid I wanted to be a firefighter, that was my big one. I also wanted to be a vet, and a super hero, and a marine biologist, and a nascar driver. You name it - I wanted to be it. I don't know what finally convinced me to make my mind up. I only decided once I graduated and took a year off to figure out who I was, but as a kid my dream job changed more frequently than the weather.

I think we were all on the same page as children in that we were very indecisive with what we had wanted to do when we grew up! As a child, I constantly changed my mind. I at first wanted to be a teacher, because my Mom was a teacher, so that was all I knew. I also loved the water as a child so I was set on becoming a dolphin trainer at a famous water park like Sea World. When I started school, I realized I was really interested in sciences, so I had dreamed of becoming some kind of doctor. The older I got, the more I changed my mind. It wasn't until my senior year of High School that I realized I had wanted to study Commerce, particularly Marketing. I have no regrets with the path that I have chosen as I love studying Marketing! It's funny how much my interests had changed from a child to now.

I wanted to be a doctor when I was little and cure cancer because everyone in my family seemed to have some form of it. Unfortunately I simply wasn't suited to the sciences. I'm not even sure what you would go into for curing diseases, some research position I imagine...

When I was really young, I wanted to be a "science doctor" because my Dad was a vet researcher. As I grew older, I became absolutely positive that I wanted to be a medical doctor, and began planning all the possible paths it would take to get there. Now, when it's actually time to decide which university program I want to enter, I have no clue. I'm trying to decide between engineering and life sciences. The problem is I don't know if I like biology more than physics and calculus, or vice versa. So many choices!

When I was little I of course wanted to be a rock star because that was the cool thing to do. I've always been really passionate about music and throughout my life I've always wanted to do something with music even when I grew up. I'm currently aspiring to be a tour manager for a band. My dream is to go on tour. I've also thought about becoming a sound engineer.

I was also very indecisive until I turned eleven.

My toy airplane made me want to become a pilot. Then later I changed my mind to becoming a doctor after watching "Gifted Hands"(movie on Ben Carson). I also thought of becoming a soldier because I loved their Regalia and parades, and a banker( I thought they could get as much money as they wanted).

Now, I am studying Engineering- a career path I have dreamed of taking for the past 10 years
